“A simple but profound meaning The Taegeuk Symbol”

Within the Taegeuk symbol, which has a simple yet deep meaning, the idea of the creation and resurrection of the universe is hidden, and the principle of harmony and coexistence is implied.
The way of the Taegeuk was also seen as equivalent to the mandate of the heavens and a source of all humanity. The kings of Joseon regarded following the way of the Taegeuk as a sign of good governance.
The Taegeuk shape was used on truce agreements, palaces, gates, and towers to reflect these beliefs.
This pattern of the Taegeuk symbol is a symbol of Korea in accordance with the concepts and values above, and the symbol is also located in the middle of Taegeukgi, the national flag of Korea.

A Pyrographic Portrait of Pope Francis

This portrait was made by master craftsman Kim Young Jo, a renowned practitioner of Nakhwa (pyrography - the art of sculpting objects with fire). Nakhwajang, Kim Young Jo was designated as Chungcheongbuk-do Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 22 in 2010.
The portrait was presented by Chungcheongbuk-do Governor Lee Si-Jong to Pope Francis during the Pope's visit to Eumseong KKotdongnae on August 16, 2014.
